Walleye Counting

Walleye Counting

Date: Around April 15th, depending on water temperature.

Location: Haliburton from the Drag River Bridge to Dam on Maple Ave.

We are sorry to announce that the Walleye Watch has been cancelled. For a number of years we have been involved with this activity and sending our data along to an individual, who was lobbying the MNR to start stocking Walleye. It seems to have fallen on deaf ears, and he has stepped back.

If you want to see Really BIG Walleye, just go to the Bridge on Maple, near Emerson's Lumber, right at dark. Typically in early April but it depends on the water temperature. Shine a flashlight into the water and you can see their eyes staring back at you. It's quite a sight.

Perhaps if enough concerned citizens contacted the MNR and asked about Stocking Walleye in our area, they might reconsider. The HHOA Fish Hatchery would be more than happy to raise some Walleye for our local lakes.
