UPDATE! Successful Egg Collection
With the hard work of our friends at the Minden MNR we collected approximately 5700 Haliburton Gold Lake Trout Eggs. Our target had been set at 5000, so this number gives us some cushion in the case of unexpected mortality.
This is the second time we have collected during the daylight hours. For many years we did this at night. The entire operation is much easier during daylight hours.
The Hatchery Volunteers will hatch and raise these fish for around 18 months, at which time they will be released into several local lakes as directed by the MNR.
Date: October 24th 2025. Beginning at 9:30 am.
Location: Hall's Lake at Elvin Johnson Park, 1221 Old Mill Rd, Algonquin Highlands, Ontario.
With the assistance of the MNR, the volunteers from our hatchery capture a few Haliburton Gold Lake Trout, to gather and fertilize eggs.
The fish are not harmed, and we take care to return them safely to the lake.
We will hatch and raise these eggs for 18 months. At that time they will be from 3-5 inches long, and have a good chance for survival. In the wild, perhaps 10 eggs out of 1000 reach this size, due to predation and natural causes. With our help we can release 600-700 per thousand eggs.
All members of the Public are cordially invited to join us and watch, learn, or assist us. Watch for an announcement on our News and Events web page.
