2025 Haliburton Gold Lake Trout Egg Collection!

2025 Haliburton Gold Lake Trout Egg Collection!

Newest Update: December 22 2025

After almost 2 months, our Haliburton Gold Eggs have HATCHED!

At this stage, they are just tiny wrigglers who still have a "Yolk Sac" attached. They need those to live on for the first couple of weeks, until they can eat real fish food. Right now they're only  about 1cm long. Stay tuned for more updates!

UPDATE: October 28 2025

We had a successful Daytime Egg Collection for 2025! Our friends from the Minden MNR collected several female Haliburton Gold Lake Trout, along with a number of males to help things along.

For many years we collected at night time, but the past 2 years we have collected eggs in the day time. Things are much easier in the daylight hours.

After processing the Golds that were brought in from the Spawning Shoals we ended up with approximately 5700 fertilized Haliburton Gold Eggs. In approximately 18 months we will be releasing these fingerlings into several designated local lakes.

2025 Haliburton Gold Egg Collection News!

October 24 at around 9:30am a joint operation by the MNR and the HHOA Fish Hatchery Volunteers will meet at Hall's Lake. We will be collecting around 5000 Haliburton Gold Lake Trout eggs, to raise for stocking of local lakes.

This Activity will take place at:  Elvin Johnson Park, 1221 Old Mill Rd. Algonquin Highlands, Ontario.

The HHOA Fish Hatchery will raise these for 18 months, to around 2-4 inches, at which time we will stock several local lakes as directed by the MNR.

The Public is Invited to come and Watch, Learn, or Assist in this Educational experience.
